Thanks to fellow horror lover, Sarah, I got access to the Oct 18th screening of Netflix’s newest vampire film, Night Teeth, slated for release on the platform Oct 20th, 2021.

Despite a slight hiccup with the start of the screening, I rather enjoyed the movie which featured Debby Ryan of Disney fame, Megan Fox (Jennifer’s Body), and Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones). Directed by Adam Randall, with the screenplay by Brent Dillon, and music by Ian Hultquist, Drum & Lace, Night Teeth felt very reminiscent of early 2000 teen tv shows and movies that gifted us vampires and witches in abundance. The music is heavy on EDM, pop, and rap tracks as the characters bounce from location to location.
The movie can be best described as Driver meets any young-adult vampire movie ever. It had a fun feel throughout it’s 1 hour and 48-minute run. The audience is dropped into the middle of the story like our protagonist Benny, played by Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Wu-Tang: An American Saga) and though this may grate some viewers who like the story explained to them, I found myself going along with it.
Since this is Monster Thoughts, I’m gonna talk a bit about the vampires. The vampires aren’t of the pale variety–the two main vampires who, in my opinion, stole the show, look like normal young adults. They do have fangs–thank God–and supernatural speed and prowess. Though they did feel grounded in this epic fantasy writer’s opinion, it fit the story we were shown perfectly: an age-old story of vampires vs. humans with a gang war motif thrown across it. Victor (Alfie Allen) is seeking to claim all the vampire territory, enlisting the aid of his two girls, Blaire (Debby Ryan) and Zoe (Lucy Fry). That’s where Benny comes in as the unwitting chauffer to the girls’ night of debauchery but I’ll say no more. You’ll have to watch it yourself upon official release.
